Instagram users can now tag products in their posts.

Previously, this feature was limited to brands and some creators. Here's everything you need to know about tagging products on Instagram, including how to do it and whether you'll get a share of the sales.
Why would you tag a product on Instagram?
Influencers use the ability to tag products to show their viewers and followers the various things they have in their posts and offer them a chance to buy.

So, if your favorite chef uses a particular hot plate in all of his viral videos, maybe tag it in future videos so you can see the make, model, and where to buy it. It's that simple. Even if you're not an influencer or a chef, you can use product labeling to showcase what you love. Instagram noted that users can also use product tagging to "support their favorite small businesses."

How do tag products in Instagram posts?

You can tag up to 20 products per post during creation. We can also tag products in both ways new ones and existing posts on your Instagram account. Most importantly, you can examine the Instagram SEO settings.

Tag products in your Instagram posts:
Create a post: Tap the + icon and switch to Post.
Select or take a photo or video.
Add a title, effects, and filters.
Tap the arrow or the next.
Tap Tag People.

Tap the photo to start tagging products. Use identifiers to find the product.
When you find a product, you can specify any style and/or color.
Tap to add tags.
Press share to publish the post with the product tag.

Where do product-tagged posts appear?
Your product-tagged Instagram posts will appear in your followers' feeds, profiles, and search results on Instagram. Instagram said it's trying to bring a similar feature to Stories.

You can also share an Instagram post with product tags to Facebook (just switch to Facebook before posting).

Do you get a share of the sales?
For now, no. This isn't an affiliate opportunity where you'll get discounts on items you tag, although Instagram has tested affiliates and is exploring ways for creators to make a living on its platform.

Does Instagram sell products?
No, not directly. Anyone who taps a brand's or retailer's product tag can purchase that item on Instagram or by going to the brand's or retailer's product detail page.

Instagram has turned on product tagging to all US users with public accounts.
